When we first downloaded and opened the app, the quality immediately shines through. The app has received a facelift that makes it look really slick and responsive to the touch. The events and markets are well spaced out and handy icons help keep the screen from being too cluttered, whilst still providing useful information. 

From the home page, we found the current in-play markets and the highlights of the day in a nice scrollable list. The special offers for the day are presented in a scrolling banner. Across the top of the app, we found quick links to popular sports and events in-play, as well as other gambling categories such as Casino, Lotto, and Virtual Betting.

Football Betting

The Betfred app is fully stocked with all the latest football betting markets and the very best technology.

It has a wealth of offers and markets for football bettors, ranging from simple markets like BTTS and Match Result to more advanced bets like Handicaps, Lucky 15s, and many, many more.

With the live betting feature we could bet on football in-play and also have the opportunity to cash out on most bets across all major leagues.

In the coupons list we found Double Delight and Hat-Trick Heaven. This is an incredibly popular special market where if you back a player to score first, you will get double the odds if they scores first and then gets another.

If they go on to get a hat-trick then you’ll get treble the odds meaning a potentially massive payout.We did notice that the odds on the first goalscorer are usually a little lower than others, but it’s worth considering if you think they’ll bag a couple.

Horse racing

Like most betting apps these days there’s live streaming of UK and Irish horse racing and UK greyhounds. All we needed to watch was a funded account. The stream had a slight delay and comes from the racing channels At The Races and Racing TV.

There’s audio commentary available too that can be left to play while navigating the races and markets.

On the horse racing section, you can browse through the day’s races and the ante-post markets for the upcoming ones. You can filter races by courses and race times. There is also a “more markets” section that is worth checking out. Here we found all of the horse racing price boosts, #PickYourPunt bets, and a host of specials on the upcoming races.

Betfred Features

Bet Builder

Bet Builder enables you to select what markets you want to combine from the same football match in order to place a bundled-up single bet. When you select your markets from the options it will start offering out instant prices.

There are match markets, team markets, and player markets to choose from and combine. Additionally, there are different time periods that can be applied for each selection. For example, a certain player to score in the first ten minutes, first half second half, each half, or in 90 minutes.

Your odds are calculated instantly and build up as you add more selections. Once you are happy with the selections and odds, you can then add the selections to your bet slip as a single bet choice.

If you can’t find the specific combination of bet you’d like, just send a tweet to @betfred and they’ll try and price it up for you. When we checked, this feature was available in all Premier League and Champions League football matches. You’ll need to give them a bit of time to reply and get the price up.

Cash-out your bets

Like most bookies, cash-out amounts are available across a generous amount of events and markets on the app. 

Betfred recently had a football bet cashed out by a punter for a whopping £76,000 that went on to lose! 

The bet was an 11-fold football acca that had Rangers to win – who went on to draw with Ross County making the bet a loser. The customer had already banked the cash though!

In-Play

In-play betting is one of our key ranking factors as this is where the performance of the app matters.

We regularly rate apps and a poor in-play experience will severely hinder the overall rating of the app in question. No such worries here though, as far as the Betfred app is concerned.

The in-play events are immediately visible from the home screen. It’s a matter of seconds before you can place a bet from logging in.

Customer service

Betfred is leading the way in the market for customer service. If you encounter a problem with the app you’ll find a full live chat service in the menu.

We’ve tested it a couple of times and they respond very quickly and are very helpful, even if we just needed a hand finding a market or event.

Betfred app consolidation

Betfred used to offer separate apps for their casino players, bingo players, Lotto players etc. These apps was available from the App Store and Play Store, but have since been removed.

Betfred has made the decision to move all of its offerings into one main app. This means users can now slide with ease from sports betting to:

Moving from one area to another (for example, sports to Vegas) is a smooth and speedy transition, with the exception of poker. Moving to and from the poker platform is a little more of a clunkier process.

More content, more problems

When the Betfred app became an all in one gambling app, it was quite data intensive and buggy. The app itself took over 300MB of internal storage space, which was way above the average at the time.

However, the developers and technicians have been hard at work ironing out the bugs and in our latest round of testing, we found the app to be very stable and the latest update bringing the internal storage space down to below 50MB.

Each  betting category available has plenty of depth and innovation, making the Betfred app a well-rounded betting app with plenty going for it in each discipline.

The in-game graphics and interfaces are great, there are plenty of choices and the platform caters well for users, regardless of whether they are on a small budget or a large one. The offers available are well mixed up so poker players should be able to find something specific for them, as should the bingo fans and so on.

Table games and Live casino

If you are a traditional casino player you should be more than happy with the range of table games on offer. On roulette, we found the usual options to replace the same bet on the next hand rather than do it manually each time. This is handy if you’re playing a certain number or strategy.

You can also double your previous bets at the touch of a button. This does double all the chips you have down on the table. Therefore, if you just want to do it on one specific number or segment, then you’ll have to do that manually.

With a live casino, you can place your bets on blackjack and roulette and the croupier will speak to you directly to confirm your position. You can choose from the tables and the different dealers that are available.

Our Verdict

The Betfred app comfortably converts its desktop gameplay directly to its mobile offering, making it well and truly one of the best of the big names.

It provides the complete gambling experience, as well as other features and offers that other bookmakers wouldn’t dream of offering. The app isn’t as lightweight or as reliable as others out there, but the amount on offer has justified a place on my phone and tablet.

It’s easy to navigate and bets can be made in just a couple of taps. Picking the winners really is all that is needed to be concentrated on.
