The design is well set out — some thought has gone into the layout. Options are activated from the Betway tab, where you choose where to navigate. Fonts are basic but clear, so you are rarely squinting to read what is going on.

Initial thoughts

When the app first launches it acts as a portal for the games on offer. You can flick between casino games, Vegas-inspired games and in-game sports betting with relative ease.

Latest promotions sit on the home page, so you do not have to get lost hunting special offers. Other betting apps kick you out to a browser for promotions — not here.

Housekeeping is strong: the range of markets is categorised so locating them is a few swipes of the thumb. Search by event or team name makes it a doddle to find the match you want.

In-play betting

There is a dedicated live betting section for events that are in play. The app is stable enough to use for checking latest scores even if you are not planning a bet. For big tennis and football matches, crowd and court-based backgrounds give a more immersive feel to the in-play markets.

Bet Builder (#betyourway)

One of the later features added to the Betway app is the #betyourway bet builder. Combine up to ten selections on applicable football matches into one bundled bet.

You can view other people’s combinations for inspiration and either back them or tweak the selections. The builder does not contain as many markets as some rivals. If it fails to give the markets you want, you can request a price by tweeting with the hashtag #betyourway — Betway support will reply to say whether they will price it up.

E-sports betting

There is a dedicated e-sports section — something not often seen in other betting apps. Access it from the menu bar at the top; on a phone you may need to swipe the menu left to see the option. Popular titles are covered, as well as some more obscure ones:

Free games — 4 to Score and 4 to Win

Betway runs two free games that give users a chance at jackpot prizes: 4 to Score and 4 to Win.

4 to Score is a football competition: correctly predict the first goalscorer from four games selected by Betway. The jackpot can rise up to £50,000 and is shared between those who get all four right.

4 to Win works on a similar basis for horse racing. The prize jackpot is £1,000 between Sundays and Fridays and £10,000 on Saturdays. Pick the four horses you think will win from the selected races, then answer a tie-break question (usually the winning margin from one race). Our verdict

Overall, Betway stands well alongside the better-known brands. It is worth downloading for the in-play features and the welcome offer in the header — and there is much more on offer. An attractive and robust app for sports bettors who also want casino and Vegas options under one account.
